Condition: Like New — This piece is virtually untouched, with no noticeable signs of wear. It offers the appearance and feel of a brand-new item.

How we grade condition and describe wear.

Every piece is graded in person by our team on the same scorecard. We describe the wear we find in plain language, and show it to you in the photos and condition report before you buy.

Condition	Description
Like New	Presents as it did the day it was delivered. On close inspection our team found nothing to note: upholstery, finish and cushions are crisp, clean and fully intact.
Excellent	Carefully kept and close to flawless. Look closely in bright light and you may find a faint mark or a slight softening at a corner. It will not be noticed from across a room.
Very Good	Lived with, and clearly looked after. Light, honest signs of use, such as gentle softening of the cushions, a small surface mark or the first hint of sun on the fabric, are noted in the condition report and photos. They give the piece warmth without taking anything from the design.
Good	An established piece with real presence. Visible wear from regular use (soft cushions, light scuffs, some sun fading) is documented photo by photo, so you know exactly what you are getting. Fully sound and ready for its next home.
Fair	A piece with a story, and the patina to show it. The wear is clearly visible and fully documented in the photos and condition report. Structurally sound and fully functional. For the buyer who values character over polish.

Highlights

These iconic wall lamps were designed by a mechanic: Jean-Louis Domecq, a mechanic by trade, couldn’t find a lamp robust and articulated enough for his workshop, so he made his own. The first Jielde appeared in 1950, and the final model was ready by 1953.
The name is his initials: “Jielde” is how you say J-L-D, his initials.
Each lamp is assembled by hand in Saint-Priest near Lyon and carries a unique serial number. Its signature articulated arms pivot freely with no visible cables, a feature that helped it move from factories into homes.

Brand

Jielde: Jielde is a French lighting company founded in the early 1950s by mechanic Jean-Louis Domecq. Each lamp is handcrafted and numbered in Saint-Priest near Lyon, with sturdy steel and cast aluminum construction and arms that pivot without visible cables. Once found in factories and workshops, its industrial classics like the Loft now light homes, restaurants, and hotels around the world.
